Butte County Alliance for Education

We envision a core curriculum that provides sequential, standards-aligned arts education for every student.

We believe the Arts promote Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, and Collaboration, the pillars of the Common Core State Standards [CCSS] and essential 21st century skills.

The Arts awaken the full potential of every student.

The Arts break down barriers.

The Arts provide valuable learning opportunities to express Butte County’s diverse cultural heritages.

Butte County Alliance for Arts Education Holds First Breakfast Meeting

BACKGROUND: In recent years, education funding decisions have shifted from categorical funding priorities set at the state level to increased flexibility at the local level. During the state’s financial crisis, many cash-strapped districts chose to cut or eliminate arts and music programs.

For this reason, the California Alliance for Arts Education has built a statewide network of local advocacy coalitions. These groups are forging relationships with local school boards, convening community wide support and offering alternatives to cutting arts programs. With the passage of the Local Control Funding Formula in June 2013, the work of these local alliances is more important than ever. Butte County is the 30th community to join this network.

BUTTE COUNTY:  Local community leaders in Butte County are meeting to activate support for arts education in their school districts. Butte County Superintendent of Schools Tim Taylor and several local district leaders as well as community leaders will speak at the event. Representation from Butte County local charitable organizations, businesses and arts organizations will also be in attendance. Tim Taylor will present a short report on the status of arts education in the school district.

CALIFORNIA ALLIANCE FOR ARTS EDUCATION: a statewide organization representing a coalition of educators, art-smart parents, administrators, policymakers, arts and community organizations who advocate for quality arts education for all students in K-12 public schools.
